Continued Professional Development (CPD)

As a Newly Qualified Teacher, beginning my career as a Visual Art teacher, I hope to develop my pedagogical practices and approaches to teaching through continued professional development (CPD). It is my ambition to further improve these skills through classroom-based research to become more involved in the field of art education. I look forward to taking part in Droichead, a Teaching Council induction programme, as this will facilitate me in learning from and collaborating with experienced members of the teaching community. This will help strengthen my practice and make me a more reflective teacher. I also look forward to engaging will all stages of the professional development framework of COSÁN to continue my development past this induction period and into the depths of my career.

As part of my commitment to lifelong learning I will focus on gathering knowledge within my subject area of Visual Art. Developing new skills and ideas to enrich the creative curriculum. I wish to continue to engage in a subject related continual professional development. I look forward to developing skills and furthering my knowledge in areas such as batik, ceramics, and textile-based art. As my skills and understanding in these areas develop, this will be reflected in my units of learning and subject department plans, allowing students the opportunity to partake in a wide range of disciplines within art and develop a wider skill set. Moving forward I also aim to further develop my knowledge on contemporary based artists to aid in my lessons for Art Appreciation as well as introduce these artists to students as possible artist research.

Lastly, further into my career I would also like to participate in various courses in continuous professional development for teachers involving wellbeing, SEN, Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) and Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE) as I find they can often complement art education and provide cross-curricular links in these subject areas.
