Short Course

As part of my PME course work, I and other students worked together to make a collaborative Short Course for Junior Cycle. Short Course are becoming an increasingly popular component of the Junior Cycle Framework and schools may choose to provide courses provided by the NCCA or develop their own based what they wish to offer students. The title of our short course is ‘Interdisciplinary Creative Practice’ with the theme of ‘Connection’.

This short course is designed to promote the learning of transferable skills such as collaboration, creative thinking and problem-solving by providing opportunities for students to challenge conventional viewpoints, solve problems and make meaningful connections across practical subjects, across creative disciplines and across the arts. Interdisciplinary Creative Practice explores the relationships that exist between the creative practices alluded to; Visual Art, Engineering, Home Economics, Music, and Wood Technology through experiential and collaborative learning. Each individual discipline provides the student with different creative experiences and technical skills which are transferable into other creative disciplines. Through a collaborative interdisciplinary study of creative practices, students are invited to form authentic connections and generate new insights which enables them to grow as creative individuals.

Interdisciplinary Creative Practice promotes creativity, collaboration and the learning of transferable skills which are applicable to future learning experiences and are important at all stages of life. By fostering problem-solving and creative-thinking within the classroom, students are primed to become innovators, creative-thinkers, and creative practitioners
